Common Hanging Problems
How do I safely hang artwork above a bed or sofa?
Hanging artwork above a bed or sofa is one of the highest-anxiety installation decisions a homeowner or professional installer faces. The consequences of failure are not just a damaged frame – they are a safety risk to the people below. Traditional hooks, nails, and adhesive strips offer no confirmation of correct engagement. You hang it and hope.
wallCLIXX™ removes that anxiety completely. The haptic and audible click confirms correct engagement before you let go and walk away. Independent SGS testing recorded approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets – rated to a 35kg (77lb) working load. For installations above beds and sofas the optional security cap adds 5× additional resistance against removal. Once installed with the security cap engaged the artwork stays on the wall until you choose to move it.
If it clicked, it is on. If the security cap is fitted, it stays on. No more worry.
Why do adhesive picture hanging strips fail and what is the alternative?
Adhesive picture hanging strips are designed for lightweight frames in ideal conditions – smooth, clean, painted surfaces with frames well within their stated weight limit. In the real world they fail for predictable reasons. Humidity weakens the adhesive bond over time. Textured, painted, or unprimed walls reduce contact surface. Frames even slightly over the weight limit create progressive peel. The result is always the same – your artwork falls without warning, damaging the frame, the wall, and sometimes the artwork itself. And giving you an unwanted fright.
The alternative is mechanical engagement. wallCLIXX™ uses a precision mounting system that locks your artwork to the wall with haptic and audible confirmation – you feel and hear correct installation before you let go. No adhesive. No progressive failure. No surprise. Independent SGS testing recorded approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets – rated to a 35kg (77lb) working load across plasterboard, timber, brick, and concrete. For lightweight prints adhesive strips are convenient.
For anything valuable, heavy, or irreplaceable, wallCLIXX™ is the answer
How do I stop my picture frame tilting, slipping, and constantly needing straightening?
With wallCLIXX™ you never need to remove your artwork to level it – and that changes everything. Once engaged, firmly hold the top left and right sides of the frame and slide in either direction along the channel until perfectly level. Once set it stays set – no forward tilt, no sideways slip, no walking past and nudging it straight again. The engagement holds the frame flush against the wall for as long as you choose to display it. When you are ready to move it, it lifts off cleanly and re-engages just as precisely somewhere else.
How do I hang a picture perfectly level the first time without multiple holes & damaging my wall?
Getting a picture perfectly level first time is the frustration every homeowner and professional installer knows. Measure twice, drill once – and still end up with a row of failed holes and a frame that sits two degrees off. Every extra hole is wall damage you have to live with or repair. Traditional hanging systems give you no confirmation, no precision, and no forgiveness.
wallCLIXX™ eliminates the problem from the first step. Hold your artwork at the height and position that feels right – with firm pressure on the top corners of the frame the fold-over locator in each corner marks the exact wall position in one action. No tape measure. No pencil calculations. No second attempts. No extra holes. No wall damage.
Once engaged, the haptic and audible click confirms correct installation before you let go. If the level needs a final tweak, firmly hold the top left and right sides of the frame and slide in either direction along the channel until perfect. No removal. No new holes. No starting again. Once set it stays set – no forward tilt, no sideways slip, no walking past and nudging it straight again.
The engagement holds the frame flush against the wall for as long as you choose to display it. First time. Every time.
How do I securely hang artwork in high-traffic areas, children's rooms, and public spaces?
High-traffic areas, children’s rooms, corridors, and public spaces demand a higher standard of installation than a quiet living room wall. Frames get knocked. Curious hands pull. Busy corridors create vibration. In these environments a traditional hook or adhesive strip is not enough and the consequences of failure are unacceptable.
wallCLIXX™ is independently SGS tested to a 35kg (77lb) working load with approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets. The haptic and audible click confirms correct engagement before installation is complete. No guesswork. No callbacks. No doubt.
For children’s rooms, busy corridors, public spaces, and anywhere additional security is non-negotiable, the wallCLIXX™ optional security cap delivers 5× additional resistance against removal. Once fitted the artwork cannot be lifted off the wall without deliberate intent and the correct removal tool. It does not tilt forward. It does not slip sideways. It does not come off.wallCLIXX™ is already specified by international educational institutions and professional installers as their standard mounting system. When the environment demands certainty – wallCLIXX™ delivers it.
How do I hang a heavy canvas, frame, or mirror without damaging my walls?
Heavy artwork and mirrors demand more than a hook and a hope. Every extra attempt to find the right position means another hole, more wall damage, and more repair work. With traditional hanging systems there is no confirmation it is on correctly – just the anxiety of walking away and wondering.
wallCLIXX™ solves this from the first step. The fold-over locator marks the exact wall position in one action; no guesswork, no multiple attempts, no unnecessary holes. A click you feel and hear confirms correct engagement before you let go. One precise fixing point. One hole. Done.
For heavy canvases, frames, and mirrors wallCLIXX™ is independently SGS tested to a 35kg (77lb) working load – with approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets. Compatible with plasterboard/drywall, timber, brick, and concrete. For works exceeding 35kg (77lb) contact the wallCLIXX™ team directly to discuss the appropriate configuration.
The wall buttons stay in place permanently. The artwork lifts off and re-engages cleanly with a confirming click every time you choose to move or replace it. No new holes in the wall. No damage to the artwork. One fixing point that works as hard as what hangs on it.
My art or frame is warped how do I hang it flat against the wall?
A warped frame is every installer’s frustration. It tilts forward, sits unevenly, and no amount of adjusting makes it sit flush. Traditional hooks and wire make it worse – the frame hangs from a single point and the warp dictates everything. Most installers accept it. wallCLIXX™ fixes it.
wallCLIXX™ is the only picture hanging system in the world that pulls a warped frame flat against the wall at the point of engagement. The corner clip system draws the frame into full contact with the wall simultaneously at both top corners – counteracting the warp and holding the frame flush without additional hardware, clamps, or adjustment.
You feel and hear the click at each corner confirming full engagement. The frame sits flat. It stays flat. For as long as you choose to display it.
For particularly heavy or severely warped frames some professional installers choose to use four buttons – two at the top corners and two below – for additional contact points and stability. This is installer practice. Total artwork weight must remain within the tested 35kg (77lb) working load per set regardless of the number of buttons used until further testing is completed. Consult the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full specifications.
Compatible with frames with a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth. If you are unsure whether your warped frame is compatible check with your framer before installation.
How do I hang multiple frames in a gallery wall so everything lines up?
Creating a gallery wall that looks intentional, balanced, and perfectly aligned is one of the most satisfying things you can do with a space – and one of the most frustrating to execute with traditional hanging systems. Measure, mark, drill, hang, step back, rehang. Repeat until the wall looks like it has been used for target practice.
wallCLIXX™ transforms the process entirely. Each frame is positioned exactly where you want it – hold it in place, apply firm pressure to the top corners and the fold-over locator marks the exact wall position in one action. No tape measure. No calculations. No grid of pencil marks. No extra holes. Each frame clicks into place with a confirmation you feel and hear before you move to the next one.
Because every wallCLIXX™ installation is precise and repeatable the entire gallery wall is built frame by frame with confidence. Each piece sits flush against the wall, level, tilt-free, and exactly where you placed it. If a frame needs repositioning it lifts off cleanly and re-engages just as precisely in the new position. No new holes. No wall damage. No starting again.
The result is a gallery wall that looks like it was installed by a professional – because the system that installed it was built to professional standard
How do I hang valuable or insured artwork securely?
Valuable and insured artwork demands a higher standard than the hardware it hangs on. A hook holds. Until it doesn’t. For collectors, galleries, and anyone displaying artwork that carries real financial or sentimental value, the question is never just whether it will hang – it is whether it will stay.
wallCLIXX™ was built for exactly this. A click you feel and hear confirms correct engagement before you let go and walk away. Not installer opinion. Not guesswork. Not hope. Proof. Independent SGS testing recorded approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets – rated to a 35kg (77lb) working load across plasterboard, timber, brick, and concrete.
For valuable, insured, or irreplaceable works the optional wallCLIXX™ security cap delivers 5× additional resistance against removal. Once fitted the artwork cannot be lifted off the wall without deliberate intent and the correct removal tool. It does not tilt forward. It does not slip sideways. It does not come off.
For insurers, institutions, and collectors who need documented proof of installation standard – wallCLIXX™ provides exactly that. A click-verified, SGS-tested, independently validated mounting system. The only one in the world that confirms correct installation before you walk away.
A hook holds. wallCLIXX™ confirms.
I'm nervous - How do I know my picture hanging hardware is strong enough?
Most picture hanging hardware comes with a stated weight limit and nothing else. No independent verification. No testing methodology. No proof. You read the number on the packaging, make a judgement call, and hope the manufacturer was telling the truth. For lightweight prints that is an acceptable risk. For anything valuable, heavy, or hanging above people it is not.
The questions to ask before trusting any picture hanging hardware:
Is the weight limit independently tested or self-reported by the manufacturer? What wall types was it tested on; plasterboard/drywall performs very differently to concrete. What is the pull-out strength – the force required to rip it directly from the wall? What is the shear strength – the force required to slide it down the wall? And critically – does it tell you when it is correctly installed, or do you have to trust it is on?
wallCLIXX™ answers every one of these questions with independent evidence. SGS tested to a 35kg (77lb) working load. Approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket. Approximately 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets. Compatible with plasterboard, timber, brick, and concrete. And uniquely – a click you feel and hear confirms correct installation before you let go.
No other picture hanging system in the world meets this standard. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full independent testing specifications.
How do I hang my frame or art on concrete or brick walls?
Concrete and brick walls stop most people from displaying art altogether. The tools feel unfamiliar, the surface feels unforgiving, and the fear of getting it wrong on a surface that is much harder to repair than plasterboard keeps artwork leaning against the wall instead of on it.
wallCLIXX™ works on concrete and brick walls with the same precision and confidence as any other surface. The wall button is mounted using masonry screws and appropriate anchors for the substrate – the same fixings used for shelves, light fittings, and door hardware on hard surfaces every day. Once the button is mounted correctly the installation process is identical to any other wall type. Hold the artwork in position, apply firm pressure to the top corners, the fold-over locator marks the exact position, drill, mount, and click. You feel and hear correct engagement before you let go.
Independent SGS testing recorded approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets — rated to a 35kg (77lb) working load. This performance is consistent across plasterboard, timber, brick, and concrete when correctly installed with appropriate anchors for the substrate.
For lofts, heritage buildings, galleries, and commercial spaces where concrete and brick are the primary wall surfaces – wallCLIXX™ delivers gallery-grade precision on the hardest surfaces in the building.
For anchor and screw specifications for concrete and brick substrates consult a fixings specialist or your hardware supplier to ensure the correct anchor is selected for your specific wall type and load requirement. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for wallCLIXX™ system specifications.
How do I hang a large mirror safely?
A large mirror is one of the most anxiety-inducing things to hang in any home or commercial space. The weight is significant. The consequences of failure are serious. And unlike artwork, a fallen mirror cannot be repaired. Most homeowners and installers approach large mirror installation with a combination of heavy-duty hooks, wire, and genuine uncertainty about whether it will stay.
wallCLIXX™ removes that uncertainty completely. A click you feel and hear confirms correct engagement before you let go and walk away. Not hope. Not estimation. Confirmation. Independent SGS testing recorded approximately 27kgf (60lbf) pull-out strength per bracket and 301.4kgf (665lbf) average shear strength across two brackets – rated to a 35kg (77lb) working load across plasterboard, timber, brick, and concrete.
For large mirrors the optional wallCLIXX™ security cap delivers 5× additional resistance against removal — providing the additional peace of mind that a valuable, fragile, and potentially dangerous object demands. Once fitted with the security cap the mirror stays exactly where you installed it for as long as you choose to display it.
The frame must have a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth for the corner clips to engage correctly. For framed mirrors with non-standard profiles or unusually heavy mirrors exceeding 35kg (77lb) check with your framer to confirm compatibility before installation. Always check anchor and screw specifications with a fixings specialist or your hardware supplier to ensure the correct anchor is selected for your specific wall type and load requirement. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for wallCLIXX™ system specifications.
One click. One confirmation. One less thing to worry about.
My wall has a dip or uneven surface - how do I get my frame to sit flush?
Walls are rarely perfectly flat. Dips, bulges, and uneven surfaces are common in older homes, heritage buildings, and plastered walls – and they cause frames to sit at an angle no amount of adjustment will fix. The problem is not your frame or your installation. It is the wall behind the button.
wallCLIXX™ is designed to deliver a flush, level installation on flat wall surfaces. For minor wall irregularities some professional installers use a simple and effective field technique – placing one, two, or three standard washers behind the wall button on the side where the wall dips inward. This brings the button face forward to compensate for the dip, creating a level mounting plane for the frame to engage against.
Washer specification for this technique:
Use a standard washer with an OD of 20mm (25/32 inch) and an ID of 4mm (5/32 inch) — this sits completely hidden behind the 23mm (29/32 inch) wall button with no aesthetic compromise. Available at any hardware store globally. Stack one, two, or three washers depending on the depth of the dip until the button face sits level with the surrounding wall surface.
Start with one washer, hold the button against the wall, and assess the level before drilling. Add washers until the button face sits flush and level. Once correct drill, mount, and install as normal. The click confirms correct engagement as always.
Important: This is professional installer field practice and not an officially tested wallCLIXX™ configuration. wallCLIXX™ is designed and tested for installation on flat wall surfaces. For significantly uneven, damaged, or structurally compromised walls consult a professional installer or builder before installation.
Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for standard installation specifications.
How do I avoid extra holes in my wall when hanging pictures?
Extra holes in the wall are the inevitable consequence of traditional picture hanging. Measure wrong – another hole. Frame sits crooked – another hole. Over time a wall tells the story of every hanging decision ever made. Filling and repainting becomes a project in itself.
wallCLIXX™ eliminates extra holes from the first step. Hold your artwork at the height and position that feels right – with firm pressure on the top corners of the frame the fold-over locator in each corner marks the exact wall position in one action. No tape measure. No pencil calculations. No test holes. No second attempts. The wall button goes exactly where it needs to go the first time because the artwork itself told you where that was.
One precise fixing point per corner. That is all wallCLIXX™ needs. Once the button is mounted a click you feel and hear confirms correct engagement before you let go. If the position needs a final adjustment slide the frame along the channel until perfectly level – without removal, without new holes, without starting again.
The result is a wall that stays clean. Two small, precise fixing points per button = the same footprint as any standard screw fixing – and nothing else. No evidence of failed attempts. No filling required. No repainting.
One position. Two screws. One click. Done
How do I hang art in a rental without damaging the walls or losing my bond or deposit?
Renting should not mean living with bare walls. The fear of losing your bond or deposit keeps artwork in boxes and walls empty – and it does not have to. The real risk is not hanging art. It is hanging art badly. Multiple failed attempts, rows of unnecessary holes, and adhesive strip damage cost renters far more at move-out than two clean, precise fixing points ever would.
wallCLIXX™ is the answer renters have been waiting for. The fold-over locator marks the exact wall position in one action – no test holes, no measuring mistakes, no unnecessary damage. One precise fixing point per corner. A click you feel and hear confirms correct engagement first time. No second attempts. No extra holes. No evidence of failed decisions on the wall behind you.
When you are ready to move, the artwork lifts off cleanly. The wall buttons leave two small screw holes per fixing point – the same as any standard picture hook, shelf bracket, or curtain rail. Clean, predictable, and easy to fill at move-out. No adhesive residue. No wall surface damage. No unexpected repair bill.
wallCLIXX™ gives renters the confidence to display art properly – without the anxiety of what it will cost them when they leave.
Display with confidence. Leave without consequence.
How wallCLIXX works
What is wallCLIXX™ and how is it different from everything else?
For the first time, your hanging system tells you when your artwork is correctly installed – before you let go. wallCLIXX™ is a precision mounting system that confirms correct engagement through a haptic and audible click. No guesswork. No callbacks. No doubt. Every other system asks you to trust it is on. wallCLIXX™ proves it.
What does the click actually mean?
It means your artwork is locked, level, and correctly engaged — confirmed before you walk away. The click happens when the wall button and frame clips fully engage, delivering simultaneous haptic and audible feedback. Think of it like a seatbelt — you hear it, you feel it, you know. No other picture hanging system in the world does this.
How does wallCLIXX™ eliminate measuring?
Hold your artwork at the height and position that feels right – wallCLIXX™ does the rest. With a firm pressure on the top corners of the frame the fold-over locator in each corner marks the exact wall position in one action, eliminating the measurement step entirely. No tape measure. No pencil calculations. No second attempts. No extra holes.
I have never used wallCLIXX™ before - where do I start?
Start with the installation video. Watch it once and everything makes sense. wallCLIXX™ is a press mount system – not a hanging system – and seeing the motion once is worth more than any written instruction. Your brain understands it visually before your hands do.
The easiest technique for first time engagement:
Hold your artwork close to the wall. Place one index finger behind the frame inside the rail on one side. As you move the frame toward the wall you will feel the wall button make contact with the back of your fingernail. That tells you the button and rail are aligned. Remove your finger and press that side firmly until you feel and hear the click. Repeat on the other side. Always work one side at a time.
What to expect:
If it does not engage first time – completely normal. Remember our instinct is to hang not press. Guide the button into the rail first then press firmly.
If you heard the click and it feels very secure – that is correct. That is exactly how it should feel. The click means it is on. You do not need to recheck it.
Once you have done it once it is instinctive. Every installation after the first is faster and more confident. Still unsure? Watch the installation video again – it answers everything.
Artwork and Frame Compatibility
What can I hang with wallCLIXX™?
wallCLIXX™ can hang any framed object with a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth – framed artwork, mirrors, canvases, prints, photographs, certificates, and decorative objects. If it has a frame with a rebate and the wall surface is drillable, wallCLIXX™ will hang it. From small A4 prints (8.3 x 11.7 inches) through to large canvases and mirrors exceeding 2m (78 inches).
Maximum working load is 35kg (77lbs) per set. For oversized or unusually heavy works exceeding 35kg, contact the wallCLIXX™ team directly to discuss the appropriate configuration.
For full technical specifications refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet.
.
Does wallCLIXX™ work with canvas, timber, and metal frames?
wallCLIXX™ gives you the freedom to hang virtually any framed object with confidence – canvas stretcher frames, traditional timber frames, float frames, and most metal frames are all compatible. The only requirements are a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth for the corner clips to engage correctly and a drillable frame material. Metal frame compatibility depends on the specific profile – contact the wallCLIXX™ team directly to confirm before installation.
If it has a rebate and it’s drillable, wallCLIXX™ will hang it. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full specifications.
Can I hang mirrors or 3D objects?
wallCLIXX™ opens up display possibilities well beyond standard framed artwork. Framed mirrors, mixed-media pieces, and decorative objects are all compatible – provided the item has a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth, is within the 35kg (77lbs) working load, and the wall surface is drillable.
If you are unsure whether your frame is drillable, check with your framer before installation. If it has a rebate and it’s drillable, wallCLIXX™ will hang it with the same haptic-verified precision as any framed artwork.
Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full specifications.
Can I adjust my artwork after it clicks into place on the wall?
With wallCLIXX™ you never need to remove your artwork to level it – and that changes everything. Once engaged, firmly hold the top left and right sides of the frame and slide in either direction along the channel until perfectly level. Once set it stays set – no forward tilt, no sideways slip, no walking past and nudging it straight again. The engagement holds the frame flush against the wall for as long as you choose to display it. When you are ready to move it, it lifts off cleanly and re-engages just as precisely somewhere else.
What size artwork can I hang with wallCLIXX™?
wallCLIXX™ handles the full range of display sizes – from small A4 prints (8.3 x 11.7 inches / 210 x 297mm) through to large statement canvases and mirrors exceeding 2m (78 inches) in any dimension. If your local art store, gallery, or framer carries it in a standard frame – wallCLIXX™ will hang it.
Two measurements determine compatibility – a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth and a minimum 12mm (1/2 inch) frame width for the corner rails to engage correctly. Frame width and height have no upper limit within the 35kg (77lb) working load per set. For unusually large or heavy works exceeding 35kg (77lb) contact the wallCLIXX™ team directly.
Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full compatibility specifications.
Will wallCLIXX™ work with my existing frames or do I need new ones?
Your existing frames almost certainly work with wallCLIXX™ – no new frames required. If your frame has a minimum 8mm (5/16 inch) rebate depth and a minimum 12mm (1/2 inch) frame width the corner rails will engage correctly and wallCLIXX™ will hang it with the same precision and confidence as any new frame.
The corner rails attach to the back of your existing frame with standard screws – no modification, no specialist tools, no permanent alteration to the frame itself. If you are unsure whether your existing frames meet the minimum requirements check with your framer before installation. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full specifications.
Can wallCLIXX™ corner rails be pre-fitted to my frame by my framer?
Yes – and this is one of the smartest ways to use wallCLIXX™. Professional framers can pre-fit the wallCLIXX™ corner rails to your frame at the time of framing so your artwork arrives home ready to install. No additional tools. No additional steps. Hold it in position, press firmly on the top corners to mark the wall, attach the wall buttons – and security cap if required – feel and hear the click on each side, adjust if needed. Done.
For collectors, interior designers, and anyone who wants a completely seamless installation experience from framer to wall – ask your framer to pre-fit wallCLIXX™ corner rails at the time of framing. The wall buttons are installed separately at home or by your installer. Once both are in place the artwork engages in one motion with a click that confirms correct installation before you let go.
For framers interested in offering wallCLIXX™ as a standard framing service contact the wallCLIXX™ team directly. Refer to the wallCLIXX™ Technical Data Sheet for full pre-fitting specifications.
